# Case: fix Klasna's exam-season price page

> NMT Sprint's page is ready to go live with a "−20%" from a one-week price, a restarting countdown, false scarcity, a fee at checkout and a pre-ticked add-on. Find what misleads and rewrite it honestly.

## The draft

**Alex Tutor:** You're on Klasna's growth team, and this module's case is real work: the NMT Sprint page for the exam season. It goes live on 1 February 2027.

**Nazar:** Here's my draft. Leo wanted to open at 15,500 "because exam families pay anything", so sales opened on 11 January at 15,500, well above the 13,000 ceiling we worked out in November. After a week only four families had bought, so since 18 January it's 12,400. I want the page to shout about it.

> **Draft page, NMT Sprint (for 1 February 2027)**
>
> **NMT Sprint 2027: eight weeks of maths exam prep, 1 March – 25 April**
>
> - ~~15,500~~ **12,400 UAH**, **−20%!**
> - ⏱ *Offer ends in 23:59:59*
> - **Only 3 places left!**
> - **From 1,550 UAH a week** · *paid in full at checkout* (small grey text)
> - Included: 16 one-to-one lessons, 4 full mock exams with AI scoring and a tutor's written review, a weekly progress note
> - Also for exam families: maths 16-lesson package, **10,720 UAH**, *save 480 compared with two 8-lesson packages*
> - EU families: price in EUR, *VAT added at checkout where applicable*
>
> **Checkout**
>
> | Line | UAH |
> |---|---|
> | NMT Sprint | 12,400 |
> | ☑ Add Klasna Club for 3 months (pre-ticked) | 1,350 |
> | Service fee 2.5% | 343.75 |
> | **Total** | **14,093.75** |
>
> *To cancel the Club add-on, write to support.*

**Leo:** Looks great to me. Can it go live tomorrow?

**Hanna:** Two facts before anyone decides. The countdown restarts for every visitor. And as of today 41 of the 120 places are sold.

**Alex Tutor:** Then start with the audit: go through the page line by line.

**Alex Tutor:** Before the line-by-line pass, decide what the audit checks against.

> **Exercise:** Leo wants Nazar's NMT Sprint page live tomorrow. What's the right way to start the audit?

> **Exercise:** The facts behind Nazar's draft: the Sprint sold at 15,500 only from 11 to 17 January and at 12,400 since; the countdown restarts for every visitor; 41 of 120 places are sold; two 8-lesson maths packages cost 5,600 each every day. Which elements of the draft mislead buyers? Select all that apply.

**Alex Tutor:** Put a number on the “−20%”.

> **Exercise:** NMT Sprint sold at 15,500 UAH from 11 to 17 January and at 12,400 since 18 January. On 1 February, measured from the lowest price of the previous 30 days, what is the real reduction behind “~~15,500~~ 12,400, −20%”? In %.

## What a parent really pays

**Sofia:** And the checkout: a parent who clicks straight through pays more than the headline.

**Alex Tutor:** Two things stack there: a box ticked for them and a fee that appears only at the end. That's drip pricing and a pre-ticked paid extra on the same screen.

**Nazar:** The fee is 2.5% of the whole order, Club included. It's all on the screen.

**Alex Tutor:** On the last screen. Compare it with the number on the first one.

> **Exercise:** A parent who leaves the pre-ticked Club box as it is: by how many % does the checkout total exceed the 12,400 UAH headline? To two decimals.

**Alex Tutor:** While you're in the checkout, fix the EU line too.

> **Exercise:** The draft's EU line says: “price in EUR, VAT added at checkout where applicable”. What should it say instead?

## The four families

**Hanna:** And the four families who paid 15,500 in the first week? They'll see "12,400" on the new page. The November depositors are covered by the ladder promise: each pays its step's price or 12,400, whichever is lower. These four had no such promise.

**Leo:** They agreed to the price. Not our problem.

**Alex Tutor:** Legally, perhaps not. But they paid more for the same Sprint because Klasna guessed wrong, and a parent who finds out tells the others. Refunding the difference costs little and keeps your word clean.

**Sofia:** And it makes 12,400 the price, full stop, with nothing to explain later.

> **Exercise:** Four families bought NMT Sprint at 15,500 UAH in the first week of sales; the price has been 12,400 since 18 January. Klasna refunds each first-week family the difference between what it paid and today's price. How much does it refund in total? In UAH.

## What makes it persuasive

**Leo:** If we remove the discount, the countdown and the "3 places", what's left to sell with?

**Alex Tutor:** Everything that's true. What the Sprint includes. A real comparison: private tutors in our October scan charge 9,600–12,800 for 16 lessons with no mock exams. A real deadline, 28 February. A live count: 79 of 120 places.

**Nazar:** And the maths package line can stay as it is?

**Alex Tutor:** Yes. It compares two prices Klasna charges every day and says so; that's a comparison, not an announced reduction. Keep the label exactly that clear.

**Alex Tutor:** Check that verdict on the package line yourself.

> **Exercise:** **True or false:** the maths 16-pack line, “10,720 UAH, save 480 compared with two 8-lesson packages”, has to go too, because it's an announced reduction from a higher price.

> **Exercise:** Which headline block is honest **and** still gives parents a reason to decide soon?

## Your turn: the memo and the page

**Nazar:** All right. Write it up for me and Leo: what's wrong, the fixed page, and what we do about the four families.

**Alex Tutor:** First, a warm-up: the headline lines only. Then the whole memo.

**Sofia:** Headline first: price, what it includes, the deadline, the places.

**Hanna:** And whatever you decide about the fee, the first number must be the one people pay.

> **Exercise:** Rewrite the top of the Sprint page (3–4 lines): the price, what is included, the deadline and the places, so that every claim is true. The facts: the price is 12,400 UAH, paid once (whatever is decided about the 2.5% payment fee, the first number must be the one people pay); sales close on 28 February; 41 of 120 places are sold.

**Alex Tutor:** Now the memo. Lead with the decision, list each problem with the fact behind it, then the fixed page and the four families.

**Leo:** And tell me why it will still sell.

**Alex Tutor:** Because the Sprint is good at 12,400, and nothing on the page needs to pretend otherwise.

**Sofia:** Problems, rules, the fixed page, the refunds, and why honest still sells.

> **Exercise:** Write Nazar and Leo a memo: what is wrong with the NMT Sprint page, and the honest version to publish on 1 February.

> **Key ideas**
>
> - Audit a price page line by line against the facts behind it: what was charged and for how long, how many places are left, what the checkout adds.
> - A "was" price is honest only as the lowest price of the previous 30 days; a one-week launch price gives a real reduction of 0%. Opening above the ceiling (15,500 against 13,000) is what created the temptation in the first place.
> - Real urgency (a closing date, a live count of places) persuades without lying; a restarting clock and "3 left" with 79 left do not.
> - The first number must be the number paid: no fee at checkout, no pre-ticked extras (a click-through parent would pay 13.66% more), EU prices with VAT, cancelling as easy as buying.
> - When a price was set wrong, make it right for those who overpaid: 4 × 3,100 is cheap compared with a broken word.

**Alex Tutor:** The next module is about discounts: when one actually buys Klasna something, and when it only gives money away.
